Walking in Your God-Given Authority as a Female Founder

That dream you have? It’s no coincidence.

There’s a reason you feel that tug to grow a successful business, nonprofit or ministry – it’s connected to your God-given purpose and His plans for you and His Kingdom.

Therefore, you are meant to take authority over it.

That might sound good tucked safely here in a blog post. However, actually living this out, especially as a Christian woman, can feel as unnatural as stepping onto a stage when you’ve always been in the audience.

You’re keenly aware of every movement, every word, and you worry about how others will perceive you. Past experiences with authority figures who misused their power or the fear of being labeled “too ambitious” can weigh heavily, causing you to shrink back when you’re meant to stand tall.

Yet owning your authority is critical—not only to your role as a leader but also to the health of your organization.

Here are five vital mindset shifts to help you walk in your God-given authority as a female founder.

  1. It’s part of your destiny. Authority isn’t about proving yourself or evaluating how you measure up. Instead, it’s about stewarding the areas God has set apart for you, trusting that He has already equipped you to fulfill His work. Every person called by God in the Bible needed the authority God gave to them to carry out His plan for them and for His Kingdom.
  2. Authority is meant to be coupled with humility. Jesus perfectly modeled the balance of authority with humility. He humbled Himself and served where service was required. Yet, He didn’t back down from confrontation or from taking command. As a leader rooted in the Lord, you can seek His guidance to navigate that balance in every situation. When you do, He not only refines you, but also uses your leadership to bring honor and glory to His name.
  3. You won’t please everyone. Jesus didn’t and He is perfect. Embracing your God-given authority as a female founder includes making unpopular decisions. It will probably cause some people not to like you. However, your calling isn’t about pleasing people—it’s about pleasing God. When you free yourself from the weight of approval-seeking, it empowers you to step fully into the leader God has designed you to be.
  4. Nothing in your life is a coincidence. Nothing. Your story, your strengths, core values, talents, education, skills, even your interests factor into becoming the leader God intends you to be. Walking in your God-given authority includes understanding how all of these pieces fit together.
  5. Embrace your mistakes for growth. Every leader makes mistakes—that’s part of the journey! Trying to be perfect creates unnecessary pressure and isn’t sustainable. When God called you to lead, He knew every step of the process, including the lessons you’d learn along the way. Rather than seeing mistakes as setbacks, embrace them as opportunities for growth that will shape you into the leader He’s calling you to be.
